ART-KIDNAPPING_VINCENT VAN GOGH VS LEONARDO DA VINCI. VINCENT KIDS MONA LISA BECAUSE HE IS JEALOUS THAT THE MONA BRINGS MORE REVENUE ON THE ART MARKET THAN HIS PICTURES

Special: How the funky-art-artist “Carlos Primeros” came to acrylic painting

How a severe life crisis led to a person of average painting, or in other words, there is an artist in every person, you just have to take the time to discover the artist in yourself.

TICK-TALK in exclusiv conversation with funky artist Carlos Primeros.

How did you get into painting?

I came to painting through a life crisis, I had never painted before. I actually come from words, I’ve always written all my life. Advertising campaigns, TV scripts, reports, speeches, etc..

The nice thing now is that I can illustrate my texts myself.

What does painting do for you?

Through painting I try to paint away my incurable cancer. I know myself that this is an illusion. But it helps me to “survive”.

How did you come to your style “funky art”?

When my son saw my first paintings, he said: “Dad, it’s funky art!

What does “funky art” actually mean?

Funky Art Funk is the mantra for not conforming and to be yourself. Shoot for the stars, follow your dreams, go with your flow, dive in, don’t look back, stay your funky self. Raise your Funky flag high and proud!

What do you want to express with your paintings?

You see I don’t paint realistically but rather surrealistically, because if I were to paint realistically, I could just as well take photographs. I let myself be inspired by everyday life, because I consciously go through life like a sponge and soak up everything.

My pictures are pure provocation. Through the screaming colours, through unusual compositions and there is always something in the picture that doesn’t belong and makes you think.

Do you have your own studio?
No, every Monday and Tuesday I visit the Living Museum in Wil SG, where about 30 artists have their fixed workplace. The atmosphere here is inspiring and takes something away from you. There is also live music on the side.

Have your paintings – in the meantime you must have completed 60 paintings – your “oeuvre” already been exhibited?
For the first time I am exhibiting in a group exhibition at the art fair in Wil SG, from 9 to 12 June 22. From the multitude of pictures I will show a triptych – Three Pictures of Plague Doctors – title “In the waiting room of the hereafter”. I would prefer to install these three pictures in a church or chapel with chlerical music in the background and a light show.

Triptych “in the waiting room of the beyond”.

Why are your pictures so expensive?
Expensive is relative. I just let the market play, pictures that stand out and have such interest sell faster than 0815 pictures.
