Greubel Forsey launches Balancier S

The complication specialist Greubel Forsey (the Geneva-based Richemont luxury goods group has held 20% of the shares since 2006), which was founded by protagonists Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 2004, presents a new sporty timepiece. The new timepiece is a successor to GMT Sport, which was launched in December 2019.

The Greubel Forsey Balancier S combines sport and chronometry with a titanium case that is up to 100 meters waterproof and a high-precision angled balance wheel. It is based on the wide balance wheel presented in 2016. The balance wheel with a Phillips end curve, which is completely developed and manufactured in the watch manufacturer Greubel Forsey, is characterized by its oversized diameter of 12.6 millimeters and has six golden regulating screws. It is inclined by 30 degrees and ticks at 21,600 vibrations per hour. With two coaxial barrels connected in series, the 308-part movement has 72 hours of power autonomy. The lift is done by hand. The bridges and the main plate are made of titanium while a gold plate bears the limitation number.

The titanium case of the Balancier S measures 43 mm in diameter (the bezel diameter is 45 mm) and 13.75 mm in height. It is equipped with integrated lugs and bracelet as well as a satined bezel with an engraving of the central values of Greubel Forsey such as “Perfection” and “Savoir-Faire”. The crown and the middle part of the case are coated with rubber to protect the timepiece. The curved oval sapphire crystal is adapted to the curve of the case.

The skeletonized hands of the Greubel Forsey Balancier S are attached to a floating arched bridge that carries a beveled gear train. The large, inclined balance at 7 o’clock is exposed and uses the space between the curved case and the sapphire crystal. A small seconds display is located on the inclined level of the escapement at 8 o’clock. In addition, a skeletonized hand with a red tip at 2 o’clock provides information about the power reserve. The caliber of the new model consists of 308 parts and 42 precious stones.

The new Greubel Forsey Balancier S is waterproof up to 100 m and is worn on an integrated rubber strap with a titanium folding clasp. The price is moderate at 195,000 CHF.
