Cuervo y Sobrinos is pleased to announce it will be exhibiting at SIAR 2022 (Salón Internacional Alta Relojería México), the most important fair for the watch industry in Latin America. At this event, the brand will unveil a new version of its popular divers’ watch, the Buceador Caribe ‘Pipin’ Edition. This limited edition has been designed in collaboration with Pipin Ferreras, the legendary Cuban free-diver, and friend of the brand. This new addition to the Buceador collection is dressed in green tones and enlivened with black, cream and orange accents. Pipin will be attending the exhibition and will also be available for media interviews.

Last year, Cuervo y Sobrinos announced a partnership with Cuban free-diver and multiple world record holder, Pipin Ferreras. Shortly thereafter, Pipin began working with the creative team at Cuervo y Sobrinos, developing a divers’ watch imbued with their shared appreciation of Cuban style.

Already impressed by the brand’s Buceador model, Pipin was keen to use this as the basis for his inaugural collaboration with the Cuban-Swiss company. The model is named Buceador Caribe ‘Pipin’ Edition and encompasses several design elements that are personal to the legendary free-diver.

Buceador is the Spanish word for ‘diver’, an apt name for a watch inspired by the Caribbean waters encircling the sun-kissed island Pipin calls home. This new version of the brand’s divers’ model shares all the features of the standard model including its highly complex 43mm case, water resistant to 200m. However, this latest model is appointed with a distinctive green dial, enlivened with black, cream and orange accents.

An ingenious pusher system, positioned at 4 o’clock, unlocks the orange-coloured crown at 2 o’clock. The crown is used to adjust the internal rotating bezel, allowing the wearer to monitor their dive time. A silver-toned crown, located at 9 o’ clock, is used to adjust the indications as well as wind the mainspring.

The Buceador Caribe ‘Pipin’ Edition features bold hour and minute hands which engage with highly legible indices. Both the hands and indices are treated with Super-LumiNova, enhancing readability in dim light. A central sweep seconds hand and date display complete the inventory of functions.

The case is composed of both straight and curving lines, while diving tanks and snorkels have provided inspiration for the design of the crowns and the aforementioned pusher. Upholding divers’ watch convention, the Buceador Caribe ‘Pipin’ Edition is fitted with a solid case back. In this instance, it is engraved with the signature of the diving legend and a depiction of a diver swimming underwater, surrounded by a shoal of tropical fish.

The watch is supplied with two straps, one in green leather and a second executed in orange rubber. Moreover, the watch is presented in a special edition humidor with sections to accommodate the watch and up to two additional straps.

The Buceador Caribe ‘Pipin Ferreras’ Edition draws on the talents of a remarkable individual and wonderfully showcases his passion for adventure and Cuban style.
